What This Means

Grade 9,10,11 | Prerequisite: All Students welcome | Fee $0
Varsity Band covers entry-level skills in ensemble and individual performance skills and expands upon previously learned concepts from middle school. By its completion, students will be prepared to advance into Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble.

Symphonic Band is the intermediate ensemble of the SLP band program. Students gain a more complex understanding of their individual instruments as well as mature ensemble skills, complex rhythm reading and music composition skills.

Wind Ensemble is the premier ensemble of the SLP band program. Students gain an advanced understanding of their individual instruments, mature ensemble skills, complex rhythm reading and complex problem solving through composition.

Jazz Ensemble 1 & 2 is dedicated to jazz and pop styles. Course also includes jazz music theory and improvisation. This course meets as a zero-hour class before school and students must be concurrently enrolled in either Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble.

Jazz 3 is an all-freshman ensemble dedicated to jazz, pop, and improvisation. Jazz 3 is a club that students register for and will meet once per week. Dates and registration will be announced after the start of the school year.

Grade: All, Extra-Curricular | Prerequisite: Teacher Approval | Fee: $50
Pit Orchestra is a small, ability-based ensemble that performs with the Spring Musical every year. Instrumentation changes every year based on the requirements of the particular show being performed. If a student is interested, they can tell their director; however, this does not guarantee placement. The SLP Pit Orchestra has been granted awards from the Hennepin Theatre Trust Spotlight on the Arts.

Pep Band performs for athletic functions and helps our school celebrate its school spirit. Due to the nature of sporting events, our pep band receives the largest "audience" of any ensemble and is therefore an important part of our music program.

What This Means
These ensembles represent a wide range of student musicians; from developing performers to advanced groups that participate in festivals, concerts, and community events. Boosters assist by providing volunteers, concert support, photography, fundraising opportunities, and resources for travel and equipment needs.

The Panther Choir is a group of students of various grade levels and abilities. Through performing a variety of vocal genres including traditional choral repertoire, multicultural music and American popular music, among others, students will gain music reading skills, singing skills, learn about history, explore other cultures and connect with each other in new and meaningful ways.

Bel Canto Treble Choir is a group of treble voices of various grade levels. Through performing a variety of choral genres including traditional choral repertoire, multicultural music and American popular music, among others, students will gain music reading skills, singing skills, learn about history, explore other cultures and connect with each other in new and meaningful ways.

Concert Choir is a group of students of various grade levels with a thorough knowledge of vocal technique and a high degree of self-discipline and commitment. Through performing a variety of choral genres including traditional choral repertoire, multicultural music and American popular music, among others, students will gain music reading skills, singing skills, learn about history, explore other cultures and connect with each other in new and meaningful ways.

Grade 10, 11, 12 | Prerequisite: Membership is by audition with the director in May. Students must have a high level of musicality, maturity and responsibility | Fee: Free
Parkairs is a co-currsicular ensemble that meets before school 2 days a week. Students are auditioned in May for the following year and need to be able to provide their own transportation to rehearsal. Parkairs sing jazz, American Theater and American Popular music and often sings with choreography. Parkairs performs at choir concerts and other performances when opportunities come up.

Bass/Tenor group is made up of basses and tenors from any grade who like to sing American popular music and American Theater music. This group meets once a week during SET time and they sing in the choir concerts.
