General Volunteer

Join our general volunteer list for occasional help with concerts, fundraisers, or small tasks throughout the year.

Role Overview

If you're open to helping but prefer occasional, flexible opportunities, this is perfect for you. General Volunteers receive periodic emails when extra hands are needed. 


What You Might Help With:
  • Program handout tables

  • Concert setup or cleanup

  • Treat table support

  • Event-night tasks

  • Fundraiser sorting or distribution days

Time Commitment:

As-needed. Completely flexible.

No experience required! All are welcome!

Grant Writer

Join our general volunteer list for occasional help with concerts, fundraisers, or small tasks throughout the year.

Role Overview

The Grant Writer plays a vital role in expanding financial opportunities for our band and choir programs. Even small grants can help fund instruments, scholarships, repairs, and enrichment experiences. 


What You'll Do:

  • Identify potential grants from community, corporate, and arts organizations (we have a list of previous opportunities)

  • Draft and submit short applications (templates provided)

  • Collaborate with directors and Executive Committee to gather program details 

  • Track deadlines, submission status, and award results

Time Commitment:

Flexible and completely remote! Perfect for that volunteer who prefers to work behind-the-scenes and independently.  


Skills Needed:

Writing ability, attention to detail, and willingness to learn. No grant-writing experience required.

Support from Booster leadership, sample applications and clear steps for each grant.

Gerten's Coordinator

Join our general volunteer list for occasional help with concerts, fundraisers, or small tasks throughout the year.

Role Overview

The Gerten's Coordinator helps organize one of our most successful plant fundraisers by managing communication, timelines, and distribution-day logistics. 


What You'll Do:

  • Manages communication for the seasonal fundraisers

  • Work with directors and other Booster members for delivery logistics

  • Manages distribution ordering instructions

  • Sharing group code and setting up timing of ordering 

  • Organizes the pickup process and ensures orders are sorted correctly

  • Organize volunteer help for pickup day

Time Commitment:

Moderate during the two main fundraiser periods (fall and spring). Majority of commitment is phone and email between Gerten's and boosters.


Skills Needed:

Organization, detail oriented (making sure each order is correct), ability to coordinate volunteers.

Social Media Coordinator

Join our general volunteer list for occasional help with concerts, fundraisers, or small tasks throughout the year.

Role Overview

The Social Media Coordinator helps keep our families informed and engaged by posting timely updates and positive highlights from our band and choir programs.


What You'll Do:

  • Post reminders for concerts, fundraisers, and events

  • Share photos (provided by directors, volunteers, or booster members)

  • Maintain a consistent posting schedule

  • Highlight student accomplishments and program wins

  • Work with directors and Executive Committee to ensure messaging accuracy

Time Commitment:

Flexible - should be well-versed with Facebook or Instagram


Skills Needed:

Social Media skills, communication, and an understanding of positive and appropriate content.

Concert Photographer

Join our general volunteer list for occasional help with concerts, fundraisers, or small tasks throughout the year.

Role Overview

Concert Photographers help us document our band and choir programs by capturing meaningful images for our website, social media, and end-of-year archives. 


What You'll Do:
  • Attend selected concerts or events to take photos

  • Focus on full ensemble shots, section shots and individual or solo musicians

  • Upload/edit images to a shared drive within 48-72 hours

  • (Optional) Capture candid rehearsal or behind-the-scenes moments

Time Commitment:

~1 hour Per-concert basis. Choose the dates that work for you. 


Skills Needed:

Experience with photography is helpful, but smartphone photographers with an eye for composition are also welcome.


What to Expect:

Clear direction from staff about photography timing, best vantage points and performance etiquette.

Concert Coordinator

The Concert Coordinator helps ensure each performance runs smoothly by guiding volunteers, supporting setup needs, and handling small tasks that free up directors to focus on students. 


What You'll Do:
  • Help organize volunteers for programs, donation tables and treat tables

  • Coordinate with Treat Coordinator and Photographers

  • Assist with signage, setup, or small pre-concert details

  • (Optional) Capture candid rehearsal or behind-the-scenes moments

Time Commitment:

Small - Depending on the number of concerts you wish to support. 


Skills Needed:

Organization, communication and comfortable leading volunteers

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Swing Dance Committee

Help us make the 2nd Annual Swing Dance another success.

Role Overview

The Swing Dance Committee helps bring one of our biggest community events to life! This team works behind the scenes to plan the flow of the evening, coordinate logistics, and help transform the gym into a lively, welcoming space for families and guests.


What You'll Do:
  • Assist with event planning and layout

  • Help coordinate volunteers and concessions

  • Support ticket sales and publicity

  • Work with directors and the Silent Auction team

  • Contribute ideas to strengthen fundraising efforts

  • Join occasional planning meetings (meeting as-needed)

Time Commitment:

Light and flexible. Meets about once a month, with emails in between. 


Skills Needed:

No experience required! Just enthusiasm!


What to Expect:

You'll be part of a fun, collaborative group working toward a memorable night for students, families, and the whole community.

Concert Supervisors

Help support students working the donation tables at the concerts.

Role Overview

Supervisors assist with setup, oversee student volunteers, ensure both entrances are covered, and help return materials after the performance.


What You'll Do:
  • Arrive by 6:15 PM to assist with setup.

  • Pick up signs, cash box, and materials (provided by the Executive Board or committee members).

  • Get printed programs from directors.

  • Meet student volunteers at the donation table, help them get organized and supervise as needed.

  • If there are enough volunteers, place students at both entrances and ensure the doors are unlocked.

  • If possible, help count donations at the end (two adults required; students may assist).

Time Commitment

A single concert evening; typically 6:15 PM  to the start of the first concert song. 


End-of-Concert Tasks
  • At the start of the performance, collect the donation box and signs (leave programs available at the tables).

  • After the concert, return the money and materials to the safe.


Choose only the dates that fit your schedule - no long-term commitment.

Jazz Band Photographer

Capture photos at Jazz Band performances and share them with our team. A fun role with lots of creative moments to capture.

Role Overview

Our Jazz Band Photographer help document performances and special moments throughout the year. Your photos support our website, social media, and program archives. 


What You'll Do:
  • Attend Jazz Band concerts and events

  • Take high-quality, well-lit photos of students and ensembles 

  • Upload images to a shared drive within 48-72 hours

  • (Optional) Capture candid rehearsal or behind-the-scenes moments

  • Make sure to photograph whole-group photos

Time Commitment:

1 hour - General concert time. Only volunteer for the concerts in which you can attend. (See concert schedule below)


Skills Needed:

Experience with photography is helpful, but smartphone photographers with an eye for composition are also welcome.


What to Expect:

Access to Stage-side or designated photography areas.

Treat Coordinator

Organize treat donations and volunteers for concerts and occasional school-day activities.

Role Overview

The Treat Coordinator helps ensure we have snacks and refreshments available for concerts and special events. This role is perfect for someone who is organized and enjoys coordinating small contributions from families. 


What You'll Do:

  • Coordinate pick-up/drop-off times and table setup

  • Ensure allergy-friendly options are included

  • Communicate reminders to volunteers

  • Oversee or delegate treat table setup at events

  • Call selected store (Hyvee/Costco/Sams) to provide cookie details (# needed and who pick-up person is)

Time Commitment:

Flexible - Most common is during concert events, but there are a few opportunities during the day as well for smaller events.


Skills Needed:

Basic organization, communication skills, and ability to coordinate volunteers

Treats are provided before school for the students.


Silent Auction Coordinator

Lead the planning and organization of our Silent Auction.

In previous years, we have held the silent auction during the Winter concerts. This year, we are trying something new. Our auction will take place during the Swing Dance event this year, taking place on March 26th. 


The Silent Auction Coordinator manages donations, organizes auction items, and oversees the auction process during the event. Responsibilities include reaching out to local businesses for contributions, creating appealing baskets, and coordinating with other volunteers to set up and close out the auction. 


Proceeds directly benefit our music students and programs, making this role an important part of our fundraising efforts. 


No expereince necessary.
